A man has been rescued from a severe fire at a restaurant in Kings Norton this afternoon (Wednesday 17th April).

West Midlands Fire Service were called to reports of a fire at the building on The Green in the centre of Kings Norton at just before 3.30pm.

On scene in less than 4 and a half minutes, crews found a severe kitchen fire at the Mahfil restaurant.

A man was rescued from a first floor window by crews using ladders and received treatment from West Midlands Ambulance Service on the scene. He was taken to hospital in a serious condition. We will update when we can.

Fire crews from Kings Norton, Bournbrook and Billesley – using a hose reel jet and with two wearing breathing apparatus – brought the fire under control.

Firefighters remain on site to damp down and an investigation into the cause of the fire will be carried out.
