A Bartley Green man has been jailed after admitting membership of banned right wing extremist group, National Action.
Formed in 2013, the secretive neo-Nazi group was banned in 2016 under the Terrorism Act of 2000 – the first organisation to be banned by the government since World War II.
In January this year, 28 year old Daniel Ward admitted membership of the group following his arrest in September 2018. A warrant at his home address revealed weapons, including air rifles and ammunition, along with extreme right-wing propaganda.
Ward was sentenced to three years in prison at Birmingham Crown Court today (Friday 19th July). He will also spend a further 10 years on licence.
Ward was one of five people arrested in September 2018 as part of a West Midlands Counter Terrorism Unit investigation, in conjunction with CTP North East and East Midlands CTIU.
The others arrested were Halifax couple Alice Cutter, now aged 22, and Mark Jones, 24; 23 year old Garry Jack, from Shard End; and Connor Scothern, aged 18 from Nottingham.
The four stood trial accused of the same offence in April, but the jury were unable to reach a verdict. A re-trial has been set for January next year.
