A woman who attempted to steal money from an elderly man at a Rubery cashpoint machine last weekend ran off empty handed after a good samaritan went to the man’s aid.
The woman tried to steal cash that the man had just withdrawn from an ATM outside a bank in New Road at just after 11am on Saturday 2nd November.
Seeing the woman trying to wrestle the cash from the man, a passerby went to his aid and she left the scene.
The woman is described as:
- White
- European accent
- Dark hair
- Approx 5’6” tall height
- Wearing knee length blue puffa jacket

Neighbourhood officers have issued the following advice regarding ATM FRAUD
- Be aware of your surroundings – if someone is crowding or watching you cancel the transaction and go to another machine.
- Always cover your PIN number when entering it on the keypad.
- Look out for signs of tampering and skimming devices, check there are no additional items are attached to the machine. This can be in the form of electronic machinery, cameras, plastic fascia, packing tape formed into a loop.
- If you suspect the ATM has been tampered do not use, inform the operator/bank immediately.
