Man charged in relation to south Birmingham sexual offences dating back two decades

A 55 year old man from Cornwall has been charged with a number of rapes and other sexual offences which took place in Birmingham and Nuneaton over two decades ago.

The alleged offences – all against women – include a rape in Selly Oak in November 1997, an indecent assault in Bournville in December 1997 and an attempted rape in Frankley in February 1998.

Following a joint investigation between Warwickshire and West Midlands Police, Phillip Blackwell was arrested on Wednesday (22nd January).

On Sunday (26th January) morning, Blackwell was charged with four counts of rape, an attempted rape and an indecent assault and was set to appear at Leamington Magistrates’ Court today (Monday 27th January).

The investigation is ongoing and anyone who wishes to speak to the police is asked to call Warwickshire Police on 101 quoting log 253 of 26/01/20.

Rape of a woman in Yardley, Birmingham on 9th February 1997

Rape of a woman in Selly Oak, Birmingham on 22nd November 1997

Indecent Assault of a woman in Bournville, Birmingham on 21st December 1997

Attempt rape of a woman in Frankley, Birmingham on 3rd February 1998

Rape x 2 of a woman in Weddington, Nuneaton on 30th May 1998
