A generous donation from an international company based in the West Midlands will benefit women being supported by a local charity.
WE:ARE (Women’s Empowerment and Recovery Educators) is based in south west Birmingham and supports women and children during and after domestic violence with empowerment and awareness programmes.
Support includes:
- The Freedom Programme – helping women to recognise and understand the abuse and
the perpetrator; - The Recovery Toolkit Programme – providing women with the tools needed to rebuild their lives and self-esteem;
- The You and Me, Mum Programme – helping women understand the impact domestic
violence has on their children, enabling them to better understand and support their needs.
Kingswinford-based company, Maped Helix began manufacturing stationery over 130 years ago. Originally trading as Helix, the company introduced the iconic Oxford Maths set in 1935 and has produced many of our trusted and loved school stationery products over the years, helping many generations of students throughout their school life.
After hearing about the B31 Voices and Morrisons Rubery Christmas Toy Appeal – collecting gifts for children and teens affected by domestic violence – the company was keen to offer a donation to the charity.
Recently (Tuesday 11th February), representatives from B31 Voices and Morrisons Rubery delivered Maped Helix’s donation of stationery to WE:ARE headquarters where the products will be used by women and children taking part in their support programmes.

B31 Voices Director, Sas Taylor, said: “We are so grateful to Maped Helix for its generous donation and it was a privilege to hand over the fantastic products to one of our most loved local charities – who doesn’t love good stationery? I certainly do, and Maped Helix is one of the UK’s most popular brands.
“Many of the activities the dedicated facilitators at WE:ARE use include creativity, so I’m confident that this donation will be put to excellent use and will benefit many women and their children.”

Morrisons Rubery Community Champion, Jane Williams, added: “We are always honoured to support this amazing charity and want to thank Maped Helix for its generous donation, which will help WE:ARE deliver their invaluable empowerment and recovery programmes to women and children who suffer domestic abuse.”
Jacky Mulveen from WE:ARE said: “Thank you to Maped Helix for the lovely stationery donations. We can’t overstate how much we get through each week on our programmes!
“Every penny counts here, so this really is a lovely surprise. Big thanks to Sas & Jane for organising.”
Gray Richmond, UK managing director at Maped Helix, commented: “When we heard about the appeal for such a worthy cause like WE:ARE, we wanted to get involved and help in any way we could.
“It was an absolute pleasure to donate our items of stationery and I speak on behalf of the entire company when I say we are so pleased we were able to make even a small difference to the vulnerable women and children that use the charity.”
