As Mental Health Awareness Week begins, a newly extended helpline has been launched to enable residents in Birmingham and Solihull to access mental health support by phone 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, mental health services have been adapted to meet needs.
Now, the new 24/7 telephone helpline means people in Birmingham and Solihull experiencing mental health difficulties can more easily access support to help them with common issues such as stress, sadness, disrupted sleep and anxiety.
The support line offers confidential emotional help, guidance and reassurance to people of all ages and backgrounds, including key workers, who may be finding the current situation we are living with overwhelming.
Dr Angela Brady, Deputy Chief Medical Officer at NHS Birmingham and Solihull CCG, said: “This week (18-25 May) is Mental Health Awareness Week, so it is the perfect time to encourage any local person to access this new helpline. Everyone needs a bit of support sometimes, and this telephone line offers an easy way to take the steps to getting the support you may need during this difficult and worrying time.
“Good mental wellbeing is as essential as good physical wellbeing, and people should not have to suffer in silence. They need to know that even though they may be isolated, they are not alone – help is there and it is just a phone call away.”
The service can be accessed by anyone at any time, or any day by calling 0121 262 3555
Young people (aged 11-25) can also access support via www.kooth.com
