As many struggle with employment during the COVID-19 pandemic — with job losses and lengthy furloughs — local agencies have come together to provide an online training event for jobseekers looking for a new career.
According to a recent article in The Independent 33,000 people in Birmingham have lost their jobs in the past year, with 15% of the city’s population currently unemployed. With the future still uncertain for many still furloughed, the unemployment figures could rise further.
Aiming to prepare individuals with basic skills to enhance their future jobseeking, South & City College Longbridge and Birmingham South West Jobcentre Plus will be hosting the sessions over 4 days from Monday 29th March 2021.
Sessions will provide help with CVs and cover letters; transferrable skills; employer preparation; online interviews; job searching; and an introduction to customer service.

Local MP Gary Sambrook (Cons, Birmingham Northfield), who helped set up the event, said: “Covid-19 has meant many local people have sadly lost their jobs.
“I am doing what I can to get people back into work by working with partner organisations to put on training events to get people back into work.
“The government is investing billions to get Britain back into work with its Plan for Jobs and kickstart program for young people.”
