An exciting new community space at the heart of Longbridge town centre is to be run by Digbeth Dining Club, it has been announced.

Following the success of the pop up Longbridge Dining Club over recent years, the move will make Digbeth Dining Club a permanent fixture at Herbert’s Yard,  bringing culinary delights to Longbridge all year round, as well as supporting other community uses.

Town centre developers St. Modwen will build Herbert’s Yard — a multi-purpose, flexible events venue for south west Birmingham.

Digbeth Dining Club will operate the venue, with seating for up to 200 people, located opposite the recently extended green heart in Austin Park.

As well as Digbeth Dining Club style events, the venue will offer attractive indoor and outdoor space for a wide range of corporate and community uses.

The venue — set to open in the autumn — will offer food and drink every lunchtime with a café and deli open between 11am and 2pm daily.

Independent food operators will serve up a range of culinary delights between 4pm and 10pm on Thursdays, 11am and 10pm on Fridays and Saturdays, and 12pm and 8pm on Sundays.

Digbeth Dining Club will also be working alongside St. Modwen to put together a calendar of monthly events such as farmers markets, Oktoberfest celebrations and Christmas fayre for the local community to enjoy.

As part of the agreement, space at Herbert’s Yard will also be available to hire for local community groups and parties for a minimum of 25 hours a week.

Work on Herbert’s Yard will start shortly with construction work due to last through the summer and the first events being opened to guests later this year.

Jack Brabant, Director of Digbeth Dining Club, said: “We have been running daytime events in Longbridge Town Centre now for six years and its popularity has gone from strength to strength; year in, year out. Finding a more permanent home for the people of South Birmingham to enjoy seemed like the obvious next step for us. This will be the first venue that we’ll be operating outside of the city centre, and Longbridge couldn’t be a better fit.

“The turnout at our Longbridge Dining Club events has grown rapidly and it is firmly entrenched as one of the most popular events in the area; to be able to have a space specifically designed for these events is a great opportunity to extend our programme.

“We’re looking forward to working with St. Modwen to provide a varied calendar of events for people to attend, and make sure Herbert’s Yard is a real centrepiece for the community which is growing in the town.”

Elliot Sellars, Development Director at St. Modwen, said: “Digbeth Dining Club has exploded into one of Birmingham’s most popular events in recent years, so to be able to welcome them to Herbert’s Yard for year round events is a real coup for Longbridge.

“As the developer behind the ongoing regeneration of the town, it is hugely important to us that we are not just delivering new buildings but putting the building blocks in place to create a lasting legacy and a thriving community. This sort of facility is something which the whole of Longbridge will be able to enjoy all year round and having an independent operator like Digbeth Dining Club onboard to provide interesting and varied food, beverage and events will ensure it will become a great success.

“We’re looking forward to working alongside Digbeth Dining Club to host some fantastic events and look forward to welcoming the local community later this year.”

The next pop-up Longbridge Dining Club – the first of 2021 – will be held on Saturday 22nd May.
