
West Midlands Police are investigating after receiving a report of a man with a firearm being seen at a major hospital site in Edgbaston this morning. A man has since been arrested in Harborne in relation to the incident but no firearm has yet been recovered.
The Birmingham Mail reports that the reported sighting was close to the Oleaster Hospital, which is a mental health facility adjacent to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham.
Police were initially called at just after 7am this morning and carried out a search of the area.
A police spokesperson said: “Officers carried out a search of the area and arrested a 44-year-old man on suspicion of possession of a firearm after he was stopped in Northfield Road (Harborne).
“No weapon has yet been recovered and he will now be questioned about this morning’s incident.”
