A 22-year-old man has been charged with dangerous driving after a Mercedes smashed into a Bartley Green bus stop on Sunday (13th June), leaving three passengers injured — one of them paralysed.
West Midlands Police are appealing for witnesses to help build a clear picture of what happened.
The white Mercedes A-Class AMG left the road and collided with a bus shelter in Woodgate Lane just before 9pm. The driver made off from the scene, leaving his three passengers injured.
One 22-year-old passenger suffered a serious back injury leading to suffered permanent spinal cord damage and remains paralysed in hospital.
A 19-year-old passenger also suffered serious injuries with leg and pelvis fractures. A third was less seriously hurt.
Jordan Tedstone of Bartley Green has been charged with two counts of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.
He appeared at Birmingham Magistrates Court yesterday (16th June) has been remanded into prison ahead of his next court appearance on 14th July.
West Midlands Police want to hear from anyone who saw the crash or the white Mercedes travelling in the Bartley Green area before the collision.
Sergeant Mark Crozier from our Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “We believe the car was travelling in tandem with a white VW Golf shortly before the collision. We’ve spoken to that driver and he’s helping us with our enquiries.
“I really need to speak to anyone who was in the Bartley Green area at the time and saw the two cars – or any other motorists that may have caught the vehicles on dash-cam footage.
“We need to build-up a clear picture of what happened in the build-up to the collision.”
