Ireland based Omniplex Cinema Group has purchased the cinema on Great Park Rubery as part of a £22.5 million deal to secure the future of the five remaining Empire Cinema venues.

The future of the last five sites — Birmingham Great Park, Ipswich, Sutton, Clydebank, and High Wycombe — has been in the balance since administrators for Empire closed several venues in the summer.

The news comes as a relief for staff and local cinema-goers after months of uncertainty, with the investment securing 150 jobs across the five sites.

Paul John Anderson, Omniplex Cinema Group director said: “We are thrilled to bring Omniplex Cinemas to Great Britain.

“Our disciplined approach to investing in our businesses and unwavering drive to operate high-quality cinema locations have proved successful over the years on the island of Ireland and has given us the confidence to venture into new territories.

“This expansion is a testament to our commitment to innovation, quality, and delivering unforgettable moments for our customers.”

It is understood that the Great Park venue will be the first to rebrand as Omniplex from Wednesday 6th December.

Tickets will be available at omniplexcinemas.co.uk
