A man is in hospital with a gunshot wound to the arm after an incident in Bartley Green this afternoon.

Gunshots heard

West Midlands Police were called to Parkside, near the junction with Clapgate Lane, at around 4.15pm to a report of gunshots heard.

Armed officers responded within minutes and found two vehicles abandoned in the street. A VW Golf – with apparent bullet holes to the windscreen –  and a Vauxhall Corsa have been recovered for forensic examination, along with a third vehicle from the scene. Officers conducted a fingertip search of the area while forensic experts examined the scene.

Police believe that three offenders fled the scene on foot and efforts are ongoing to trace them.

‘Deliberately targeted’

West Midlands Police said: “A 29-year-old man later presented himself to hospital with a gunshot wound to his arm – his injury is not life threatening. It’s understood the man was walking in Parkside at the time of the incident and that he was deliberately targeted.”

‘Unrelated’ incidents

A police spokeswoman told the Birmingham Mail that a later incident in Weoley Castle Square which saw a 16 year old lad arrested on suspicion of possessing a firearm, and a pellet gun incident in Quinton, were unrelated to the Woodgate shooting. Read more in Birmingham Mail
