West Midlands Police are investigating after a toddler died in hospital yesterday (Wednesday 22nd November) after being found seriously hurt at a home in Northfield.
A 21 month old baby girl was found unconscious by emergency services called to the house in The Green, Northfield on Sunday (19th November) and was taken to Birmingham Children’s Hospital in a critical condition, where she sadly died at 8.30pm last night.
A man, 28, and woman, 30, have been arrested on suspicion of causing or allowing serious injury to a child and released on conditional bail to addresses away from the home.
West Midlands Police are investigating her “unexplained” death and medical tests are being carried out to determine whether injuries sustained were accidental or deliberate.
Inspector Ian Wilkins from West Midlands Police Force CID, said: “This is a terribly sad case which has resulted in the death of a little girl.
“At present her death remains unexplained; our enquiries will focus on determining whether any of the injuries she sustained were deliberately inflicted or whether this was a tragic accident.
“A post mortem will be carried out in due course which will hopefully confirm the precise cause of death.”
Anyone with information should call police on 101 giving reference 20BW/250153C/17 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
Our thoughts go out to all those affected by this tragic event. We request that no-one identifies the child or family on B31 Voices sites while investigations are ongoing. Thank you. RIP little one x
