West Midlands Police have confirmed that firefighters tackling a severe house fire in the early hours of this morning discovered cannabis plants in four rooms of the property.

Luckily, no-one was hurt when the blaze struck the house in Green Meadow Road, Selly Oak in the early hours of this morning (Thursday 22nd March).

Four West Midlands Fire Service crews – from Bournbrook, Woodgate Valley, Northfield and Highgate – attended the blaze in a semi-detached house from around 3.30am after neighbours spotted the fire.

Crews worked hard to control the fire and managed to prevent it from spreading to the adjacent property.

A police spokesman said: “Police were called to a house fire on Green Meadow Road […] by the fire service just after 5am today.

“Upon arrival, it became apparent that the house was being used to cultivate cannabis.”

The amount of plants in the property is unknown at this early stage of the investigation, however, the spokesman said four rooms in the property were involved.

Anyone with any information is asked to call West Midlands Police on 101. Alternatively, contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111 or visit www.crimestoppers-uk.org

Well done, all.
