A Northfield teenager has been raising funds for a sepsis charity, in memory of her late father, who died as a result of the illness two years ago.
16 year old Jade Panting had her beautiful long locks cut off to raise money for the UK Sepsis Trust. She also supported children and young people who have suffered hair loss through cancer or other illnesses by donating her 13 inches of hair to the Little Princess Trust to be used for wig-making.
Jade’s dad, Michael, sadly died as a result of sepsis in May 2016, aged just 58.
Sepsis – also commonly known as ‘blood poisoning’ – affects up to a quarter of a million people in the UK every year. It is a severe reaction to any infection which can lead to the body’s immune system attacking its own organs and tissues. As the illness begins with just a normal infection – such as a chest infection or gastroenteritis – it can be difficult to spot sepsis in time to get effective treatment. Sadly, around 1 in 4 cases result in death.
Jade, who is studying Health and Social Care at Bournville College, decided to cut off her hair in memory of her dad.
This weekend, just a few days after what would have been Michael’s 60th birthday, karate black belt Jade braved the scissors!
She took the plunge in front of family and friends at a Royal Wedding Celebration at the family’s favourite holiday spot: The Springs Holiday Park in Pershore.
