As the hot and dry weather continues, firefighters were called to a fire in woodland in the Lickey Hills Country Park yesterday evening (Saturday 7th July).

Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service received a call at around 9.45pm. Crews from Redditch, Bromsgrove and Malvern attended, with assistance from the West Midlands Fire Service crew based in Kings Norton.

The fire, close to the first hole on the Birmingham City Council managed Lickey Hills Golf course, was extinguished issuing two hose reel jets.

The cause of the fire has not yet been identified.

Lickey Hills rangers posted pictures of the aftermath on social media on Sunday, appealing for park users not to light fires or BBQs and to take when extinguishing cigarettes.

Lickey Hills Golf Club also introduced smoking restrictions to the course on Sunday, asking golfers to smoke only in bunkers or on hardstanding areas, ensuring any cigarettes are full extinguished.

Following numerous fires over the last two weeks, firefighters from Northfield fire station last week appealed to locals to help stop fires by reporting people responsible for what they believe to be arson on the disused quarry on Cock Hill in Rubery.

The dry weather is set to continue with day-time temperatures expected to remain above 20ºC for the next two weeks, with little chance of any rain. Check the up to date, detailed forecast from the Met Office.
