A man has been jailed for nine-and-a-half years after being found guilty of historic sexual abuse of under age victims up to 40 years ago.
57 year old Alan Millward was handed the sentence at Birmingham Crown Court on Thursday (5th July) after a jury found him guilty of six counts of indecency with a child, three counts of rape and two counts of indecent assault. All of the offences took place between 1975 and 1982.
The jury heard that Millward abused his young victims at various locations in the city, when they were on their own in the property. He asked them not to tell anyone of what he had done and on one occasion offered his watch to one of his young victims if she allowed him to abuse her.
Decades later, one of the victims eventually informed the police of what Millward had done to her and he was arrested. A further two victims subsequently came forward.
Julia Mcsorley, from the Crown Prosecution Service, said: “I would like to first pay tribute to the victims for their bravery and support in helping us to bring this dangerous sexual predator to justice.
“Alan Millward had thought that he had escaped justice for the crimes which he carried out on his young victims over 40 years ago. Even during this prosecution case he denied what he had done and thereby forcing his victims to relive the abuse which he had carried on them. However through their evidence, the defendant has been found guilty of his crimes.”
