The friends and family of a brave Rubery mum have inspired the local community to come together to raise thousands of pounds.

Mum of three Ellie Gwilliams, 30, was diagnosed with cancer in her womb and cervix in June last year. Following treatment, including a hysterectomy, Ellie was given the all clear by Christmas.

However, within four months, the cancer had returned and determined Ellie has since been battling hard with further treatments and surgeries.

A crowdfunder was set up by friends, to support Ellie and her family during her fight, raising over £2000.

Inspired by Ellie’s strength, her netball friends wanted to raise more and planned a big community festival. With support from the local community, Ellie’s Festival took place last weekend (21st July) at Holywell School.

With entertainment, a charity netball match, stalls, games and more, the event was also supported by donations from local school children and a charity auction.

So far the total raised by the festival is over £6000 and there’s still more to count!

One of the organisers, Shall McCann (aka Harley Quinn!) said: “Being British we sometimes struggle with expressing our emotions with words – so when our words fail us, we show Ellie we support her through our actions.

“Ellie has inspired each and every one of us – she’s the strongest person I know. We hope this takes some of the financial stress away and shows her how much we are behind her.

“I am so proud of everyone involved. I’m proud to be a part of this community, full of such compassionate people.”

A very grateful Ellie said: “I honestly can’t thank everyone enough for everything they have done for me and my family! I don’t think I’ll ever know how to fully repay their kindness.”

We wish Ellie and her family all the best. Well done to everyone who contributed in any way to her festival and who continue to support her and her family! Amazing community spirit – inspired by an amazing lady :)
