West Midlands Police have urged a driver to hand himself in after he ran from the scene of a collision in Northfield this afternoon – leaving a woman and two children in the car as he attempted to evade police.
The accident happened at around 3.20pm this afternoon (Wednesday 12th September) when two cars collided near the junction of Rea Valley Drive and Staple Lodge Road.
Police had abandoned pursuit of a Seat Ibiza shortly before.
The driver of the Seat fled the scene, leaving a woman and two children in the abandoned car.
Eye witnesses described that the driver jumped over garden fences and climbed onto a bungalow roof in a his efforts to evade police.
A West Midlands Police spokeswoman said that officers are trying locate the man. She said: “We are aware of his identity and urge him to hand himself in to the police.”
The two children from the Ibiza were taken to hospital for checks as a precaution and a woman was uninjured. The driver of the other vehicle, a Nissan, was taken to hospital with minor injuries.
