Visitors to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham in Edgbaston were evacuated this evening (Monday 24th September) as police officers dealt with a bomb threat.
The threat was received by telephone to the hospital just before 7pm.
West Midlands Police officers – including armed response – arrived at the hospital within minutes and a search was carried out, assisted by police dog units.
The ground floor entrance area was fully evacuated but patients, staff and visitors on the wards were asked to stay where they were.
A force spokeswoman confirmed that all was found to be safe. She said: “Nothing was found and the call is now believed to have been false and malicious. Officers are continuing to patrol the area to offer reassurance.”
