West Midlands Police collision investigators are trying to piece together the circumstances after a man was found with serious head injuries in a Northfield street late last night (Tuesday 2nd October).
They are appealing for witnesses – including the driver of a 4×4 seen in the area – to come forward with information.
The injured man was discovered in Genners Lane at the junction with Long Nuke Road just before midnight.
Paramedics were called to the scene by West Midlands Police officers and two ambulances, a paramedic officer and a MERIT trauma doctor attended.
They found the man, 63, to have sustained serious injuries and trauma care was given on scene before he was transferred to hospital by ambulance.
The man remains in a critical condition today, having suffered serious head injuries.
Circumstances unclear
Traffic collision investigators are unclear on the exact circumstances of the collision at present and have appealed for witnesses – including the driver of a light coloured 4×4 – to come forward.
Detective Sergeant Paul Hughes, from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “We are in the early stages of piecing together how this man came about his injuries and I am keeping an open mind.
“We are unclear at this stage whether the man was a pedestrian crossing the road before he was struck, or whether he had already sustained injuries in the road before he was hit by a car.”
Witnesses and 4×4 driver sought
DS Hughes said: “I would urge anyone who knows anything or who was in the area at the time, to get in touch with us as a matter of urgency. In particular I would appeal to the driver of a light coloured 4×4 car which was at the location at the time to make contact.”
