Longbridge pub issues statement after kitchen employee targeted by ‘paedophile hunters’ at work

A Longbridge pub has posted a public statement after an employee was targeted by a group of ‘paedophile hunters’ while at work yesterday (Wednesday 7th November.)

The 36 year old man – a kitchen employee – was approached by the group at The Cambridge in College Street in Longbridge town centre just after 7pm. The group posted a live video on Facebook where they challenged the man, accusing him of sending sexually explicit images to young girls on social media, before police officers arrived.

West Midlands Police confirmed today that they were called at 8.05pm to a reports of a disorder at the pub.

A spokeswoman said: “A 36-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of a sexual offence and for breach of a Sexual Harm Prevention Order. He is still in police custody. The pub is not connected to the cause of the disorder.”

The Cambridge is run by Greene King as a Hungry Horse pub and it is understand that the man is a back of house employee, working in the kitchen.

The following statement was posted on The Cambridge’s Facebook page this afternoon:

“We are aware of an incident regarding a member of our back-of-house team. We are working closely with the Police and their investigations, and the appropriate action has been taken while we await the outcome of this investigation.

“We would like to reassure our guests that we take careful consideration with the recruitment of any new team members, and as part of the selection process we conduct all legally required checks on a candidate prior to the confirmation of employment.

“The safety of our team is of paramount importance and we will not tolerate any threatening behaviour towards them. Threats made on social media about our team members will be recorded and presented to the Police.”
