On the eve of the century of the First World War Armistice, Rubery is preparing to remember to fallen tomorrow (Sunday 11th November).

Remembrance week at St Chad’s Church

Last week, St Chad’s Church in New Road held its annual memorial service where the names of lost loved ones were read as part of prayers. The church is also hosting creative work produced by three community groups – the Rubery WI Craft Group, Rubery in Bloom and the Rubery Rocks Facebook page – in the run up to Remembrance Sunday.

Talking about this season of remembrance, Rev’d Claire Turner said: “Grief touches all our lives – it is never easy to carry but we can support one another by bringing our loss before God in simple acts of remembrance.

The Rubery Rocks Facebook Group invites people to place rocks painted with poppies or other symbols of remembrance next to the wooden cross outside St Chad’s. Members of the community can then collect stones on Remembrance Sunday and rehide them around Rubery.

Tess Ensor, who runs the Rubery Rocks groups, said: “To remember our fallen heroes, Rubery Rocks are asking all members to decorate a rock and place it at St Chads Church.

“It would be amazing to see our younger generation remember our fallen heroes in time for Remembrance Sunday.”
