West Midlands Police are appealing for witnesses after a woman was sadly killed in a collision as she got off a bus in Edgbaston yesterday afternoon (Saturday 22nd December).

The 65 year old local lady was struck by a car at around 3.30pm. She was treated for serious internal injuries before being pronounced dead at scene.

A man (36) has been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving. He remains in police custody while the investigation continues.

Sergeant Alan Hands from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “I am keen to hear from anyone who saw what happened and has not yet spoken to police.

“We are in the early stages of our investigation and we are particularly interested in hearing from anyone who saw a blue Volkswagen Golf car which was involved in the collision.

“Our thoughts remain with the family of the woman who has sadly lost her life, who ask that they are left to grieve.”

The A38 Bristol Road was closed between Edgbaston Park Road and Pebble Mill Road for a number of hours while officers investigated the scene. The road has since re-opened.

Anyone with information is asked to contact West Midlands Police on Live Chat at www.west-midlands.police.uk (8am – midnight) or to call 101 any time. Please quote log number 1771 of 22 December. Alternatively, contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or visit www.crimestoppers-uk.org

Our thoughts are with all those affected at this awful time.
