A Rubery takeaway is facing potential fines of up to £40,000 after a raid by Home Office immigration officers yesterday discovered two illegal workers (Thursday 28th February).
Immigration Enforcement visited the Crystal takeaway in New Road at around 6pm yesterday, acting on intelligence received.
A Home Office spokesperson said: “Immigration checks identified a 55-year-old Chinese man and a 38-year-old Malaysian man had no permission to work. They had both overstayed their visas and were detained while steps are taken to remove them from the country.”
The employer, Crystal Takeaway, was served with a civil penalty referral notice. The notice asks employers to demonstrate that they have carried out appropriate right-to-work document checks – such as seeing a passport or Home Office document confirming permission to work. If an employer is unable to do so, a financial penalty of up to £20,000 per illegal worker is imposed.
