A woman was sadly pronounced dead at the scene after being pulled from a severe house fire in West Heath by firefighters in the early hours of this morning (Monday 17th February). The cause of the blaze is as yet unknown.

Emergency services were called to the fire in Alvechurch Road, close to the island junction with Cofton Road, at around 2.30am. 25 West Midlands Fire Service firefighters in 5 appliances attended, along with ambulance crews including an ambulance, a paramedic officer, a MERIT trauma doctor and a critical care paramedic.

Firefighters discovered the woman inside the property. However, a West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “[…] sadly, when she was brought out to ambulance staff, there was nothing that could be done and she was confirmed dead at the scene.”

Fire crews are expected to remain at the scene most of this morning, along with a fire investigation officer working to determine the cause of the fire.

Our thoughts go out to the woman’s family and friends and all those affected by this awful incident. Thank you to our dedicated emergency services staff for all they do.
