A 28 year old man from Handsworth has been handed a lengthy jail sentence after stabbing and almost killing another man and assaulting an 18 year old woman in a Birmingham street last year.

The 22 year old male victim suffered multiple stab wounds during the attack by Tristan Wallen in August last year.

The man was outside his family home at a block of flats in Roundlea Road when Wallan entered the block and repeatedly beat an 18-year-old woman inside the property.

Wallen and another man, who has not yet been identified, then turned their attention to the male victim, chasing him down the street and stabbing him in the chest.

Fearing for his life, the man tried to run from his attackers but Wallen quickly caught up with him and continued to repeatedly stab him in the back and side.

Fortunately, the victim’s mother intervened after finding her son bleeding heavily on their doorstep. She shouted towards Wallen, who ran off.

Officers swiftly arrived at the scene and a manhunt was launched to try and trace Wallen after witnesses identified him and a car he was seen fleeing in.

A week later, a car matching the description pinged on an ANPR camera and was then pursued by traffic officers, before being stopped on the A38 in Birmingham.

Wallen, who initially tried to give his brother’s details, was identified as being wanted for attempted murder and was arrested.

A search of the car also found him to be in possession of cannabis.

Following a two week trial at Birmingham Crown Court on Monday (11th May), Wallen was found guilty of attempted murder, assault, possession of an offensive weapon and possession of a controlled drug and sentenced to 24 years in prison.

West Midlands Police Detective Thomas Oppenkowski said: “I am really pleased to see such a violent man spend many years in prison.

“This is another case highlighting the devastating effects of knife crime. The victim was originally deemed to have suffered life threatening injuries, so he is very lucky to have survived.

“I hope this outcome demonstrates how seriously we as a force take knife crime and will continue to target offenders who chose to use a knife.”
