Witness Appeal after 76-year-old cyclist found injured in Frankley street

West Midlands Police are appealing for witnesses after a 76-year-old cyclist was found injured in a Frankley street yesterday afternoon (Wednesday 30th August).

Paramedics found the man lying next to his black and white bike in New Street – close to the Arden Road junction –at around 4.05pm. He was wearing a white helmet.

West Midlands Police today confirmed that the man suffered a head injury and was taken to hospital, where he remains in a stable condition.

New Street was closed to traffic for around 2 hours.

Serious Collision Investigation Unit Detective Sergeant Paul Hughes said: “At this stage we are keeping an open mind as to how this gentleman sustained his injuries.

“I am keen to hear from anyone who was in the area around 4pm, in particular anyone who might have dash-cam footage, please get in touch.”

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “We were called to reports of a cyclist lying next to his bike on New Street at 3.49pm yesterday.

‘One ambulance, a paramedic officer and the West Midlands Care Team were sent to the scene. On arrival we discovered one patient, a man. He was treated for serious injuries before being taken to […] Hospital.”
