A motorcyclist – believed to be in his 20s – has sadly died after colliding with a tree in Selly Oak in the early hours of this morning (Wednesday 20th September).

The collision happened in Bristol Road at around 2am and the man died at the scene, despite the best efforts of emergency service personnel.

Bristol Road remained closed southbound this morning – between the Witherford Way turn and Bournville Lane – while West Midlands Police collision investigators examined the scene.

The collision was witnessed by an ambulance crew who immediately stopped to provide care to the motorcyclist.

Emergency services – including police, a second ambulance, a paramedic officer and the MERIT trauma doctor and critical care paramedic – attended the scene.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “The man was moved to the ambulance and received advanced life support and trauma care but unfortunately it was not possible to save him and he was confirmed dead at the scene.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact West Midlands Police on Live Chat at www.west-midlands.police.uk (8am – midnight) or to call 101 any time. Please quote log number 232 20/9/23.

Our thoughts go out to the man’s family and friends and all those affected.
