Longbridge developers St Modwen are set to sponsor a new 10k run in Longbridge in support of LandAid, the property industry charity tackling youth homelessness.
The launch of the LandAid Midlands 10K follows the success of the LandAid 10K in London, which is now in its 21st year, with 800 runners taking part last year.
Taking place in September, the inaugural LandAid Midlands 10k will welcome runners of all abilities. Runners will race around the £1 billion redevelopment of the area, which is being transformed from the home of motoring innovation into a vibrant new community by St. Modwen.
LandAid is a charity which brings together the property industry to make a positive difference to the lives of young people who are at risk of homelessness. The charity hopes to raise £30,000 from the race, which will help convert long-term empty properties into safe, warm homes for vulnerable young people as part of their ‘Sponsor a Home’ campaign. The majority of funds raised will support young homeless people in the Midlands, with the rest going towards other homelessness projects across the UK.
Chief Executive of LandAid, Paul Morrish, said: “We’re thrilled to be holding our first LandAid Midlands 10K this year. LandAid has a strong presence in the Midlands, with a track record of supporting projects that tackle youth homelessness in the region, and with a new LandAid Midlands Board established to help drive fundraising.
“Too many young people still face the danger and insecurity of having nowhere safe to sleep at night, which is why we are calling on as many runners as possible to lace up their trainers and join the race to end youth homelessness in the Midlands”.
