West Mercia Police have confirmed that a fire in a mobile phone repair shop in Rubery is being investigated as arson.

The fire happened in the early hours of Thursday 18th May, just months after a fire gutted the entire market hall in October last year. Six fire appliances – from Hereford and Worcestershire Fire and Rescue Service (HWFRS) and West Midlands Fire Service (WMFS) – attended the fire.

It appears that offenders broke in through a side door and started a fire deliberately to the rear of the M&D Mobile Solutions unit. No-one was hurt and no other units were damaged.

Following an investigation by HWFRS, West Mercia Police have launched an investigation into the arson and are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

A West Mercia Police spokesperson said: “Officers are asking people who saw anyone acting suspiciously at the location during the early hours of 18 May, either on foot or in a vehicle, or have any information about the incident, to contact West Mercia Police.”

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101 quoting incident 40S of 18 May. Alternatively, contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111 or visit www.crimestoppers-uk.org

In the meantime, M&D Mobile Solutions have continued to offer repairs at a stall outside their closed shop.
