Residents are advised to take extra care if out and about and make sure they keep warm as the winter weather continues to bite over the next few days.
The Met Office have issued an Amber alert for snow for tomorrow (Sunday 10th December) and a Level 3 Cold Weather Alert is in place until Tuesday (12th December).![]()
Freezing temperatures
Temperatures are expected to fall below freezing this evening (Saturday 9th December) and not rise to above 0 C until Wednesday 13th December.
The very young, elderly or those who have health conditions making them vulnerable to the effects of cold weather, such as respiratory problems, are advised to take extra care over the next few days. Advice from Birmingham Resilience.
Even more snow
With snow and ice already laying on the ground, a further prolonged period of heavy snow is set to hit the West Midlands from the early hours of Sunday morning and through in to the afternoon.
The Met Office is predicting a snowfall of around 6-10cm (2.5-4ins), with some areas set to get as much as 15-20cm (6-8ins).
With temperatures remaining below freezing, a yellow warning for ice extends into Monday which may cause further disruption to travel and affect the Monday morning commute to work and schools.
