A 15 year old boy has been arrested today as West Midlands Police officers continue to investigate a serious stabbing in West Heath on Wednesday evening (20th December) in which an 18 year old man was seriously injured.
The incident – believed to be a targeted attack – happened in Staple Lodge Road, where the man was found with serious stab wounds to his chest and leg. He remains in a serious but stable condition in hospital today.
The boy was arrested when armed police carried out an operation in Weoley Castle earlier today (Friday 22nd December).
Detective Sergeant John Mawhinney reassured that police believe that there is no threat to the wider community. He said: “We’d like to reassure people in Weoley Castle that today’s operation was in response to Wednesday’s incident, and there is no wider threat to the community.
“At this stage the motive remains unclear, but early enquiries suggest it was a targeted attack.”
DS Mawhinney appealed for witnesses to continue to come forward with information to enable officers to: “build up a clearer picture of what happened and identify whoever was responsible.”
