Workers at a Rednal charity have returned to work today ready to reopen and continue their work supporting individuals and families in need in South Birmingham – only to discover their premises has been broken into.

The Project Birmingham, based in Belton Grove, supports local people with housing, debt and benefits issues, helping to prevent homelessness in our communities.

Heartless thieves broke padlocks on a storage garage at “The Depot” at some point over the Christmas and New Year period – between Friday 22nd December 2017 and Wednesday 3rd January 2018.

Among items stolen were those intended for home starter packs for those returning in to accommodation after being homeless – including toasters, kettles, quilts, pans, crockery and more.

Some garden equipment used for the upkeep of The Project’s outside space was also stolen.

Manager Helen Sephton said: “The items are essential to people starting out in their new homes, many clients move into a property with just the clothes on their backs.

“People seem really keen to help. It’s not the greatest start to the new year but, hopefully, with the help of the community, we can turn it into a positive.”

Click here to make a cash donation to help replace the stolen items. A list of items needed will be added later.

If you have any information on the burglary, please contact West Midlands Police on 101. Alternatively, contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111 or visit www.crimestoppers-uk.org
