Appeal lodged to government planners to overturn golf course redevelopment decision

Developers hoping to build 950 homes on the site of a former Northfield golf course have lodged an appeal with the government, in an attempt to have Birmingham City Council’s decision to reject their plans overturned.

The renewed application for 950 homes was refused in August 2017 after city Planning Officer Ben Plenty had again recommended that the committee refuse the application for two key reasons:

  1. The site was ruled out for housing development in January this year when the government’s chief planning officer accepted the Birmingham Development Plan.
  2. Concerns remain about ecology & landscaping.

Since the refusal, there have been a number of issues at the site, including an arson attack on the former club house and travellers accessing the land.

Last month, Birmingham City Council approved an application to demolish the former club house.

Now, Bloor Homes have registered their appeal with the Planning Inspectorate and an Inspector appointed by the Department for Communities and Local Government (DCLG) will determine the appeal.

Comments previously made to Birmingham City Council planners will be forwarded to the Inspector.

Any further comments must be received by the Planning Inspectorate by 13th March 2018:
