A fledgling Rubery choir performed in front of an audience for the first time last month.

The singers excitedly / nervously prepare!

The Rubery Singers was formed in September 2017 and on Shrove Tuesday, performed their first practice concert at St Chad’s Church in Rubery – raising a fantastic £350 for the Katy Dawson Breast Cancer Fund.

The singers performed songs from Moana, The Greatest Showman and Snow Patrol’s Run.

The choir was established by Caroline Allen as a casual group, not only for experienced singers, but for people who just want to enjoying singing together. The group now has around 30 regular members.

Caroline said: “This has transformed from an idle idea while watching Sister Act and I put a post on Facebook to see who was interested.”

Musical Director, Chris Passey said he was proud of the group, who always rise to a challenge.

Chris said: “The entire group has been working so hard since September. I have made sure we haven’t shied away from difficult repertoire and every week they make me incredibly proud.”

Caroline said she was grateful to Chris and “right hand lady” Trish Taylor for their hard work. She said: “My dream would be for us to make an impact on the community and have a happy vibe as Rubery and Rednal seem to get left behind.”

The Rubery Singers welcome adult singers of all abilities. They get together every Tuesday between 7.15pm – 8.45pm at St Chads Church, New Road, Rubery.

Pop along or visit their Facebook Group or email for more information.
