[UPDATED] Man charged | Arrest after sexual assault incidents on south Birmingham bus route

UPDATE Sunday 10th June: 30 year old Kamran Ali from the Turves Green area has been charged with two counts of sexual assault and will appear before Birmingham Magistrates tomorrow (Monday 11th June)

A man is in custody today as police investigate separate incidents where it is alleged that women were sexually assaulted on buses on a south Birmingham route. 

The man was arrested in West Heath yesterday evening (Friday 8th June) after police were alerted by members of the public.

West Midlands Police confirmed that the 30 year old remained in police custody today after being arrested on suspicion of sexual assault.

Police received three separate reports of sexual assaults on board number 47 buses in south Birmingham in recent weeks.

  • 10am 21st May: 19-year-old woman touched inappropriately several times on board a number 47 bus in Warwards Lane, Selly Oak.
  • 21st May: 38-year-old woman inappropriately touched on board the same bus in Turves Green in Northfield shortly afterwards
  • 22nd May: 23-year-old woman groped on the top deck of 47 bus from Kings Norton, traveling along Pebble Mill Road, Edgbaston.

Officers are investigating links between the three incidents and investigations continue.
