The date for the closure of Tessall Lane near Longbridge station has been confirmed.

The stretch between the bridge over the River Rea by the Austin Social Club entrance to the junction with Longbridge Lane will be closed permanently to motorised vehicles from Monday 2nd July 2018.

Work will then commence on a thoroughfare designed for pedestrians and cyclists. The works will be carried out by Fitzgerald on behalf of Birmingham City Council.

The works are expected to last for around four weeks and pedestrian and cycle management measures will be in place so please be aware if travelling to the station.

The changes are part of the Longbridge Connectivity Project, consulted on back in 2015.

Extensive improvements are currently underway on Bristol Road South (A38), Lickey Road and Longbridge Lane including improvements to major junctions at A38 / Lickey Road, Turves Green / Longbridge Lane and Groveley Lane / Longbridge Lane.

All works were originally expected to be completed by the summer but some of the Longbridge Lane works have been delayed and are now expected to be completed later this year.

Drivers were confused earlier this month when new speed limit signs appeared on Bristol Road South between Northfield and Great Park, Rubery.

Birmingham City Council have since clarified that the new speed limit of 30mph will not be in force until all signage has been changed and a new Traffic Regulation Order (TRO) obtained. This is expected to be some time in mid July.
