Cyclist seriously injured in West Heath collision

A cyclist has been seriously injured in a collision with a car in West Heath this morning.

The accident happened just after 10am near shops in Fairfax Road, close to the junction with Clunbury Road and Cropready Road.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman said they were called at 10.18am and an ambulance, two paramedic officers, a Midlands Air Ambulance Critical Care Car, the Midlands Air Ambulance helicopter from Cosford with a MERIT trauma doctor on board and a second BASICS doctor were sent to the scene.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman said that the cyclist was found in a serious condition when ambulance staff arrived and was being attended to by members of the public.

She said: “[He was] being given excellent first aid by bystanders which included an off-duty St John Ambulance volunteer.”

The man received advanced trauma care at the scene from ambulance staff and doctors. Once stable he was transferred to hospital by land ambulance were a trauma team was pre-alerted to his arrival.

The driver of the car was assessed by crews but did not require any treatment.

The road remained closed at 3pm this afternoon while collision investigators examined the scene.

We are currently awaiting an update from West Midlands Police.
