A 13 year old boy remains in custody today (Tuesday 11 Dec) after being arrested on suspicion of assault after three teenagers were stabbed in Selly Oak yesterday afternoon (Monday 12 Dec).
The incident happened at around 4.25pm in Weoley Park Road, at the junction of Bristol Road.
Police and ambulance vehicles were present at the University of Birmingham School.
Three injured – ‘not life-threatening’
The three injured teenage boys were taken to hospital for assessment after receiving stab wounds in the incident. Police say none of their injuries are thought to be life threatening or [physically] life changing and two remain in hospital today.
Boy arrested
West Midlands Police confirmed that a 13 year old boy was arrested at around 7.30pm last night and remains in custody for questioning today.
Investigation
Detective Inspector Gemma Currie, from force CID, said: “I would like to reassure members of the community that we are working with local schools today, gathering CCTV evidence and taking statements.
“We are conducting patrols in the area and would like to speak to anyone who saw what happened or has information on the incident.”
University ‘Shocked’
A spokesperson for the University of Birmingham and University of Birmingham School said: “We are shocked about the incident in Weoley Park Road yesterday evening [Monday] and are grateful to the emergency services for their response and for the medical care and attention given to those who were injured.
“We are assisting the police with their enquiries to establish what took place and to find those responsible and would encourage anyone with information to contact the police[…]”

The spokesperson added: “The safety and well-being of our pupils, students, and staff is of the utmost importance and we are providing support for any members of our community affected by this incident.”
