Northfield man jailed for 15 years on rape and sexual assault charges

A 38 year old man from Northfield has been jailed for 15 years after he repeatedly raped and sexually assaulted a woman over a 2 and a half year period. West Midlands Police have praised his victim for her courage, after she bravely came forward to report his actions. 

Andrew Brueton of Merritts Brook Lane was charged with multiple counts of rape and sexual assault which took place between December 2014 and June 2017.

Last Tuesday (16th January) at Birmingham Crown Court, he was convicted of five counts of rape and five counts of assault and jailed and placed on the sex offenders register.

Detective Constable Kirsty Gray, from the force’s public protection unit, said: “The victim showed tremendous courage to report these repeated offences.

“She had suffered at the hands of Brueton over a period of time, both physically and mentally, and by reporting these we were able to fully investigate and bring him to justice to end her own suffering.”

DC Gray said that specialist officers will support anyone who reports sexual attacks and, together with other agencies, supported the through the criminal justice process.
