The new Northfield Leisure Centre is now set to open May as originally planned. Centre managers, Birmingham Community Leisure Trust, had hoped to get the facility open in April, weeks earlier than originally planned.

However, they have today confirmed that the centre is now on target to open within the first two weeks in May, which was the original target for completion.

A spokesperson said: “Due to some unanticipated bad weather throughout March, we are now on track to open during May. We are sorry if this has caused some disappointment, it has for us too as we were hoping for an early opening date.”

The spokesperson confirmed that staff alongside building contractors and equipment suppliers, are continuing to work hard “around the clock” to put the finishing touches to the centre. They said: “Our centre staff team all look forward to welcoming you for your first visit.”
